What is the history of braces - suspenders? A glance.
1736
Benjamin Franklin (also known as a publisher, diplomat, co-author of the Declaration of Independence and the inventor of bifocal glasses and the lightning) introduces the braces in the uniform of the Fire Department Philedelphia. It is said that the inspiration came from the gallows.

Approx. 1800
The name 'braces' is derived from the French Bretelles. There they were introduced on the French Revolution. Some people say they prefer Napoleon wore decorated with bees, which symbolized his Corsican origins.
1820
In 1820, five years before Nelson's column in Trafalgar Square was built, Albert Thurston opened a braces shop at 27 Panton Street, London.
1850
Today the most common Y-shaped back is introduced. For this were mainly the X-shape and (slightly less) the H-shape popular.

Approx. 1900
At the beginning of the twentieth century, suspenders are especially a garment for the working people. The elite is waering of course tailored trousers and also a number of years it's been fashionable to wear a belt or suspenders.
1987
The film Wall Street reintroduces the Wall Street power-look in the street (light blue shirt with contrasting white board): "Greed is good" says actor Michael Douglas with two thumbs behind the braces.

2007
Hein Strijker, an advertising guy from Amsterdam (with suspenders), marvels at the quality, traceability and service with braces in Dutch shopping. He thinks he can better and started his own label, Heinz Strijker Braces.
